MOOSE LEGION MEMO…. 2011-12 Annual Moose Legion Project Preliminary Announcement TWO VANS & TWENTY-ONE COMPUTERS The Moose Legion Council has accepted and authorized the annual project for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. We are happy to announce the preliminary details ahead of the conference in Anaheim so our jurisdictions that are eager to get started raising funds can start to Create Some Interest in achieving this goal. Mooseheart is in need of 2 additional passenger vans at an approximate cost of $33,000.00 each and 21 office computers at about $1,000.00 each. That is a combined amount of $87,000.00 needed to complete this project. Each jurisdiction is requested to raise funds in an amount of $1.75 per active member as of April 30, 2011. This keeps the amount per member at the same level as last year. Of course the opportunity for early fund raising efforts and payments can result in discounts again this year, saving your jurisdiction some money. Each jurisdiction completing their goal and submitting full payment prior to November 30, 2011 will be allotted a 20% discount. Each jurisdiction submitting full payment prior to February 28, 2012 will be allotted a 10% discount. We will be sending a letter to each unit advising them of these numbers. Additionally we will continue the gracious collection of contributions from all jurisdictions for the Youth Awareness Scholarship program. As in past years each jurisdiction is to contribute 50 cents per active member. These scholarships are awarded to participants in the annual international congress. There are 5 scholarships awarded: $12,000, $8,000, $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000 for a total of $30,000.00. A letter will be sent to each Secretary confirming your amounts for these programs. We look forward to your participation and completion of these annual programs to make life better for the students at Mooseheart. The incoming International President will also run a President’s Project to purchase lawn-mowing equipment for Camp Ross. This project will be a $15,000.00 effort to help keep the grounds in good shape for our students to use during the summer. On another note, we will continue with the Endowment Fund Competition again this year recognizing jurisdictions in each of the six categories. Updates will be posted on the website to see how you are doing. Good luck to all. Complete details on these items will be presented in Anaheim at the 45 th Moose Legion Conference. Contributions can be sent to Moose Charities for all these programs starting immediately. Lets Create Some Interest and get these efforts moving forward.
Effective June 1, 2011, members can pay their dues online using the new and improved QuickPay program. How does this program differ from the old program? The new program gives you the ability to pay up to ten years of current membership dues. It gives you the ability to pay your dues early without having to wait for a renewal notice. For multiple members, it gives you the ability to pay any/all of your memberships at the same time. It gives Moose Legionnaires the ability to pay Moose Legion dues only. If you haven't yet looked at the new program, please do so today. Go to www.mooseintl.org and click on the "Pay Dues Online" icon. If you have any questions, or do not have a computer and would like to pay dues using your debit/credit card, please don't hesitate to contact Member Services at 630.906.3658. They will be happy to assist you with your payment Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM Central Time.
WHAT IS THE MOOSE LEGION? Dedicated members of the Loyal Order of Moose continually look for ways to provide even greater service to our children at Mooseheart and our senior members at Moosehaven. The Moose Legion provides a venue for these enthusiastic members to direct and lead special programs that accomplish this fraternal mission. WHO BELONGS TO THE MOOSE LEGION? Moose Legionnaires come from all walks of life and occupations. They are leaders in their communities and they prevail in positions of responsibility and leadership within the Moose fraternity. Each Moose Legionnaire believes strongly in doing some good thing for someone each day. WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER JOINING THE MOOSE LEGION? Membership in the Degree of Service offers you additional opportunities to serve childhood and old age, and opens the door to you and your family for theme parties, sporting events, community service projects and other unique activities available only to members of the Moose Legion. Moose Legion Celebrations are held at various Lodges within the jurisdiction of your Moose Legion, and serve as a means to share ideas and enjoy good times with fellow Moose Legionnaires. Leadership skills may be developed through the Moose Legion Committee of your Lodge or within the Moose Legion jurisdiction. Membership in the Moose Legion is the stepping stone to the Honorary Degrees of our Order – the Fellowship Degree of Honor and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. Being called to receive these Honorary Degrees within the Loyal Order of Moose is only possible through recognized achievements in the Lodge and Moose Legion.
We all know by now (I hope) by now that if you sponsor and have enrolled just 2 members in your Lodge, Chapter, and or Moose Legion your next years dues will be paid.
Why
didn't somebody tell me? Why didn't
somebody tell me? Why didn't
somebody tell me?
Moose Legionnaires, Have You noticed how it
seems everything in the Fraternity seems to go in slow motion
after the end of a fiscal year and before the end of the
International Convention? ...almost seems like: "yeah, let's
wait 'til the new membership Promotion Program is unveiled in
Anaheim" before any serious thought is given to recruiting or
retention.
This month is just as much a part of
this Fiscal Year as any other and it deserves our best efforts
to sign new Moose Legionnaires and to RETAIN the ones that we
have now. Please look over the attached document and look for a
group who will put the plan described into practice and "THE
TIME IS NOW". As The Director of Ritual and Higher Degrees, Bob
Neff, has said: "If we had started our retention efforts earlier
in the last fiscal year, we would've shown that increase in
active members that we were striving for". We still haven't
stopped the thirty year decline in Our active Membership, let us
start now and, finally, make fiscal 2011-2012 the year that we
reverse the norm and report and increase in
Tampa in 2012!! We have shown by the results at the end
of 2010-2011 that we can do this. Again, we need to start our
retention efforts earlier ....."THE TIME IS NOW".
....hope we have those "International
Moose Legionnaire of the Year " forms in the hands of the Lodge
Moose Legion Committee Chairman if you haven't already chosen a
Nominee and sent it out already. In must be done by
July 1, 2011: The Resume' portion to your Moose Legion
Secretary and the part identifying your Nominee mailed in the
envelope provided to Moose International.
We had fair participation last year; we all
have someone who is a worthy Nominee and we look for 100%
participation this year!!
Thank You for all that You've done and
all that You will do for those entrusted to our care at
Mooseheart and at Moosehaven. Without You, none of the good that
we do happens.
Regards, Bill (Wm. E. Meyer Sr. Intl.
